The first semi-final of Festival da Canção 2021 took place on Staurday with ten acts hoping to make the Grand Final on 6 March.
The show was broadcast live from RTP studios in Lisbon and was hosted by Jorge Gabriel, Sónia Araújo and Inês Lopes Gonçalves. A 50/50 split of televoters and the public had their say and sent five masked hopefuls home.
The only real thing of note is that RTP has revealed that if any competing artist tests positive for COVID-19 before their semi-final, they’re out. If they make the final and test positive, RTP will use a clip from the semi-final. No mention of what happens if they test positive days before the show in May – but broadcasters must be putting together their Plan B by now.
