9 August – What brings the morning? Maybe nothing, maybe everything

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

We like looking at members of very exclusive clubs. There’s the double winner’s Club. That’s pretty exclusive. Then there’s the 2020-only Club. A little less sp. And then there’s another club with only four members.

In 1993 and 1996 there were pre-selections that many never want to count as semi-finals, even though they served the same purpose. Two countries – Hungary and Romania – had songs in these pre-selections that never made it to the big Saturday night. That makes today’s birthday boy Gjon Delhusa one of an exclusive Magyaro-Romanian quartet of performers. Gjon was particularly unfortunate, losing out on the 1996 Oslo gig on pure countback. More countries liked his song, but that other song got a higher mark from one jury. How cruel. This would have done much better too.

Gjon is 71 today.

Boldog születésnapot, Gjon!
