Before coming to Vienna I found the Hungarian song as dull as ditchwater. It still is, it plods along slowly and doesn’t really do much musically for me but there is very nice story being told here.
I actually felt myself welling up a wee bit which is ridiculous. I mean every well trodden cliche in the book here is wheeled out.
The spinning solar system (yes we are a tiny dot), the world spins into view (that world needs protecting), a cluster of guns appears only to morph into a tree (and a bloody impressive tree it is too, lush and leafy) and therein is your lesson today children.
Put down the guns, save the planet and all will be ok. It shouldn’t work but it kind of did and the way Boggie just stands innocently and sings well accompanied by sensible backing singers ie. doing nothing else but sing adds to it.
This is nice, quite nice, oh and musically still dull. Qualifying, don’t know..
