2 February – You’re an independent grown man after all

One of the biggest questions we’ve been asking ourselves of late is “why hasn’t Italy not won since 1990?”. I ask myself that at least four times a day.

Let’s look at the evidence. Their œuvre of work since Italy returned in 2011 has been almost beyond compare. A stack of top 10 placings, a second and a third place. We all thought – RAI included – that we’d be spending part of 2019 in Milan, San Remo or Calgliari. But no. Anyway, today’s birthday girl Nina Zilli (née Maria Chiara Fraschetta) had hopes on her too when we were in windy Baku. It was not quite to be. A ninth place was all she managed, behind the mumbler of mumblers.

Nina is 38 today.

Buon compleanno, Nina!
