Monty’s Eurovision Countdown Part 10 – Czech Republic

Love may be a many splendored thing, but it’s the messy end of the affair that offers such rich pickings to artists, poring over the emotional impact of a breakup. We Are Domi plunder this theme and offer us a upbeat dance track that belies its lyrical confusion in exactly the way that feelings in the wake of a failed relationship rarely make sense.

“Where are you now when I need you?” sings Dominika – Domi – as she regales the changes she’s making to get her life back on track: her job, her sheets, her lover. The video illustrates this by showing her trying to break out of the mundane routine of a heavily regulated dystopian psychodrama.

Let’s be honest: this isn’t a ground-breaking piece of pop. It’s a fun but throwaway dance song that will be enjoyed on the dance floor that in any other year might struggle to stand out.  In this year’s line-up though it’s three minutes of happy, albeit not euphoric, light relief.
