Everything about this suggests RTE are treading water. Fair enough the broadcaster came under fire and pressure to boycott the Tel Aviv contest. Rumour has it few established names would touch Eurosong with a bargepole. And Sarah McTernan has endured online abuse way beyond acceptable.
Putting this aside, Sarah does her best with a weak-as-water song. ’22’ reminds me of Sunday afternoons with Terry Wogan previewing Eurovision songs. It’s a slice of nostalgia. But not a good slice.
The video looks thrown together and the production and harmonies sound like they’re straight from the early 90s.
