Phil’s Eurovision Countdown – Part 34 – Russia

Now, for the clever among you, I’ve not written these in order, but presented them in order – i’m clever like that!!

Now, listening to this on the 21st March at work it sounds like something that Sakis would have put in in circa 2007. It’s so old-fashioned and invokes the Maltese Rhyming Dictionary when it comes to some of the lyric (depressingly no “Fire and Desire” couplet”) but there might as well have been as that’s the only thing missing from this.

It’s as formulaic as Einstein and is schlager by numbers. All of which is not a bad thing, just a thing really. As I have said in another piece, though, teh Gayz and Eurovisionista’s will almost certainly forgive Russia’s human rights record for a man showing a bit of skin, but does that automatically make this song better than A Million Voices… no… but it’s the friendlier face of Russia, and that’s A OK.

Will it win? – Possibly… but if familiarity means votes, this is as friendly as a golden retriever. Woof!
