Occasionally, we get non-winning songs that develop a life of their own. The so-called ‘break-out’ song. Some quarters think that, if you don’t win, your career is over. It may happen to some, but not to all. That’s the fun of songs competing against each other.
In 2022, today’s birthday girl Ռոզա Լին/Rosa Linn (née Ռոզա Կոստանդյան/Roza Kostandyan) went to Torino/Turin with a song that was tipped to do well, but maybe not win. She made the final where she finished 20th. Not promising, you may think. But along comes Tikky-Tokky, and things go in an unexpected direction. Everyone started attaching it to their videos. Rosa Linn had a massive hit on her hands. Top 10 or better in some parts of the world, trips to the US to appear on chat shows, supporting big acts on tours around the world. And all from a song that had a torrid time in a Grand Final. Especially when two-thirds of her points came from juries. It just shows that you should never give up.
Rosa Linn is 25 today.
