The Czechs might sneak up on you

Kabat

Phil: Despite my preconceptions about this song – it’s a decent “real” rock song from Kabat – one of the few actual music bands in this contest. Typical greasy long haired rockers that smoke too much and gargle with the usual – but it is the closest to “true” music that the contest will get to this year, one suspects.

I thought that the gravelly voice would not go down well with me, and in the recorded version, it doesn’t. However, it must be said that the more that I listen to this song, the more it grows on me.

Evidently it did not go down well in the hall with the “punters” – but they generally know what they like, and that has already been on today! Careful – Kabat might sneak up on you

Nick: Now, you see, I have a theory about this. The Czech Republic is, as you well know, participating in the Eurovision Thing Thing for the first time in 2007, and they are of course very welcome. My theory, however, which is mine and belongs to me, is that Kabat’s knowledge of the contest extends as far as “It’s the festival that Lordi won last year”.

Whatever it is that the “Eurovision style” is, these guys aren’t making any attempt at all to play up to it, and as a result there are some very confused faces in the press area right now.

Proper rock band, proper rock song, and as you’d expect of a major stadium band they’re very, very good at it. Let’s see if it actually was just the costumes that worked for Lordi last year… this is certainly good enough to test the theory and qualify if rock is now on the Official Approved Genres list.
