23 February – Just polish your halo

It’s a common thing that countries don’t always pick a national when they’re deciding who should sing for them. That’s down to the country concerned, whether it’s right or wrong.

Some places had almost no national singing for them. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn’t. Today’s birthday girl Lise Haavik was a national of Norway, but made her mark in Denmark with her husband. Ironically, she tried several times to represent Denmark but only managed it when the circus was in, yes, you’ve guessed it, Norway. It was still a journey south from her birthplace so may have been a relief. And she finished sixth, so that must have made her even happier.

Lise is 60 today.

Tillykke med fødselsdagen, Lise!
