There are, occasionally, times when you come across a song. There’s nothing wrong with it, but you know it will sadly fail at the semi-final stage. It’s not the fault of the singer, or the song. It’s just, well, stuff.
In other news, our friends in Iceland sent today’s birthday boy Ari Ólafsson to Lisbon in 2018. He got one of those nice sunny gigs, and was in evidence at the parties before the contest fortnight, as well as making himself know to anyone and everyone. It is part of the Eurovision song sales pitch after all. Sadly, those scamps at the EBU put him on second on his semi-final, so it would always be an uphill struggle. Even more so when he only scored 15 points from both jury and televote, with let’s just say a large majority of those points coming from the jury. But as personality, young Ari was definitely one of the best.
Ari is 24 today.
Til hamingju með afmælið, Ari!
