29 March – When the clouds are gone the stars come out around us

We had a crowd pleaser yesterday, and we have another one today. Thursday’s was a soaring opus. Today’s is the good old floor filler.

We know Iceland desperately wants to win our favourite TV show. Maybe even more than Malta – that would be an interesting fight. Iceland’s greatest achievements are two runners-up spots, incidentally 20 years ago and 10 years ago. Hmmmm. Anyway, today’s birthday girl Hera Björk Þórhallsdóttir didn’t sadly get one of these runners-up spots. But she’s a fan favourite and would put bums on seats at any Eurovision gathering. Her song in 2010 finished third in her semi-final, but only 19th in the Grand Final? How did that happen? This song is televoter bait. And wouldn’t offend a jury either. So, Europe, tell em what went wrong?

Hera Björk is 47 today.

Til hamingju með afmælið, Hera Björk!
