Would a song lyric that says “I’m voting for beer” draw you in? Do you like alcohol? Or do you think it’s the root of all evil?
Today’s birthday boy Arnis Mednis incorporated this killer line in his song in 2001. It did enough for him to finish 18th in sunny Copenhagen. Why are we pointing this out? Well, it was this song that gave its country the chance of winning the following year. If Portugal – who finished above this song – had decided to participate the following year, then Latvia wouldn’t have participated and therefore wouldn’t have won. And we might have been in Belgium.
Arnis is 61 today.
Daudz laimes, Arnis!
