25 April – How could I ever refuse?

Today we celebrate a birthday from a member of a certain popular beat combo. You might have heard of them. They come from a country with a modest population, called Sweden. Or “Sverige” to use their local parlance.

Back in the 1970s, April must have been a fun month in a certain household in Sweden. Today’s birthday boy Björn Kristian Ulvæus celebrated just 20 days after his one-time wife Agnetha Fältskog. As we know, they were one half of ABBA, who wowed Europe in 1974, and then went on to do to the same to the world. Waterloo won Melodifestivalen at a canter, scoring 302 points. The runner-up scored a measly 211. That runner-up Lasse Berhagen would get his turn one year later. Anyway, here’s the winning of that all-time classic, in Swedish, at Melodifestivalen 1974.

Björn is 78 today.

Grattis på födelsedagen, Björn!
