Do you wish that contests were close these days. The current scoring makes things a little more dramatic, but there were days when it genuinely came down to the last set of votes.
In the 1990s there were a couple of times when this happened. Today I’m looking at 1993. There we were, in the west of Ireland, and they couldn’t get hold of Malta. It was close after the 24th jury so all rested on a bunch of people in St Julian’s. And where did they go? Well the leading country got the maximum, but there was nothing for the runner-up. Malta gave their 10 to Luxembourg, which gave the Luxembourgers 11 points. Anyway, birthday girl Sonia Evans came second with the uptempo little number. We still love her.
Sonia is 48 today.
Happy birthday, Sonia!
