The Sanremo process invariably means Italy avoids sending the kind of half-arsed stinkers beloved of other Big Five members. I either love or hate what they send, but I can never deny the musicality and talent. I hated their recent winner, for example.

A blend of reflective lyrics, breakneck delivery and a vibrant backing track will stand out in Malmo – there’s nothing else like this. It’ll do fine.
