Finland – Käärijä – Cha Cha Cha
In direct and stark contrast, therefore, to Estonia’s song with one idea, here’s a song with three ideas – Cha Cha and Cha! Finland has taken it to the other end of the spectrum and decided to use all the colours in the tried and tested method of “distracting you from a song that is totally rubbish”. Believe me, dear reader, when I say this – Cha Cha Cha is totally rubbish as a piece of songwriting.
However. It is very well performed rubbish, and you literally can see Kaarija polishing this turd as the minutes go on. This, sadly, is going to be perfect for your drunk televoters, and me, on a Tuesday evening. I say sadly because I’ve been doing this long enough to know exactly why I should be dismissing this song, but am savvy enough to know that real people will see Finnish dance music, and think it’s the second coming or, even worse: “Its what Eurovision should be.”
No, no it isn’t…. but it makes me smile and that, surely, is going to be enough for this to be top ten in the final. Just make sure that if you are epileptic, or value your sense of taste, to run out of the room at this point
Phil’s Score – should be 0, but is 12. I hate myself.
