Predictions time-

10 songs need to go through.
Some of the qualifiers will go through because someone has to and not on basis of their quality of songs.

I had to think hard and my 10 qualifiers are:
Finland
Serbia
Australia
Ireland
Estonia
Romania
Poland
Belgium
Sweden*
Czech Republic

I have 7 qualifiers from the 2nd half of this semi, which is basically mental.

*Sweden- everyone love the song and think it’s a contender. I get Sweden 2010 vibes from this song.
History lessen – Sweden 2010 is a female ballad, which everyone loved, except for me, and eventually didn’t qualify.
To its credit, Sweden 2022 is not the worse song in this semi, and this alone should see it through, because if it doesn’t, a much worse song will.

See you later, folks

After the success on Tuesday(or he wanted to give Mo a day off), Phil invited me to live blog the 2nd semi and I just accepted the invitation.

Enjoy the show and apologies in advance for any type mistakes I may make

Ok- I think the opening is a bit on an inside Italian joke

8 minutes and we are with songs.
That’s must be a record

Finland –
He looks like he had a bit too much botox. The yellow and black motive and the balloons don’t really add anything to the song.
The same problem we had with other rock songs- too static performance for a rock song

Israël –

Anyone who read the countdown of this site know I don’t like the song.
Like Albania more a sketch for a song than a real song.
This a family and not asahme if it.
Vocally he is fine, beside some glitches here and there.
Unlike Albania, the staging make sense. But the song, oh the song.
He is better than the song.
The crowd sining with him is a nice touch

Campy, not family

Serbia-

You either like it or hate it but you can’t ignore it.
It something which will be in future clips of weird Eurovision.
The presentation is simple an effective and it has an effect you can’t resist

Totally agree – the effect you can’t resist, we’ll said, Shai

Azerbaijan –
A strange structure for the song. Barely has a chorus and it sounds something out a musical theatre minus the drama..
I mis some high notes but in general has a good voice.
It’s just beige, even if the presentation is hiding this

Georgia –

This sounds liveless and it suppose to be much more lively.
Georgia is doing things their own way but again not succeeding to connect with teh audience

Just noted that the kinetic sun is doing the flags before the song start

Malta-

She starts off key and she is still off key as the song progress.
I thought that anthrnsongs had their days, not sure why Malta thought this is a good song, fit for 2022

The San Remo section- they are right in one thing. San Remo was the inspiration for Eurovision

San Marino-

He may have charisma, uniqueness, nerve and talent but his voice has a rough edge.
Is it a good song, not sure. But as a rock song he has the energy that other rock songs in this year don’t have.

P
S. I love his stripped back version to this song

Another break – it does interrupt the flow of the show

And Mika admitting it’s done to buy time, is hilarious and sad at the same time

Australia –

The mask is mistake as it deliberately place a block between him and the audience at home.
The chorus is just repetitive and dragbyhe song a bit.
The staging is a bit of a drama, isn’t it?

RAI is f**** this up

Cyprus –

It’s not a difficult sing to sing and yet she is off key. It is mostly heard in the beginning of the chorus.
And can someone explain me how the staging help this song in any way?

Something is really wrong here. Song wise, singing wise and staging wise

Ireland –

It’s poppyand a bit trashy but somehow it works.
Vocals are more or less spot on.
The trashy staging works here.
If this qualify, it will bring a lot of energy to the proceedings and we may need just that

North Macedonia –

Way too dark and blue stage.
She is emoting well but it feels as she is very lonely on the stage and the songs lacks a punch to really leave any mark on you

Somewhere there is hiding a better song in this one

Estonia –

We are in Italian Western territory here.
Otnproves that any genere can enter Eurovision.

It’s infectious and he smiles and give you a warm feeling.

Vocals and diction were fine

Shai

They really can’t cope with all the set changes and therefore have way too many breaks.

Shai

Romania-

This is a combination of a mild version of Israël and the happiest version of Australia.

He is an average vocalist and the recorded backing vocals are doing most of the job.
But it is a happy and harmless tune

Poland –

One of the few songs that got stucked in my head in the seaso to this year’s contest.

Vocally very good but he Gail to connect with the audience.
I kind of like what they doen with the staging.

The bridge is a let down as it throw you out of the song.

In general good, quite good actually

Polish song is melodic and the singer’s voice is kinda cool. But the problem is: his watch has more charisma than the dude himself.

Montenegro –

This is suffering from coming after Poland as it expose how weak the composition is, hoe forgettanlebthe song is and how unexciting she is as a singer

Belgium-.

It’s actually not bad as all and the staging works to some degree.
It’s a solid performance.
Just not sure it is enough for qualifying.
And I think he missed the high note at the end

Sweden-

I never watched MF, sonfor me this is all new.

I think I am suppose to be feeling something but no, it leaves me cold and there are some very weird camera shots which keep me away than getting me in.

Very strange

Czech Republic –

As far as I can hear, vocals are solid and she manage to carry the song without hick ups.

And they somehow manage to make this track working on a Eurovision stage.

It:s more accessible than Austria and should go through

Interval –

Singing Fergaile from Sting, how is this Italian?

And if we are complaining about singers singing off key, which should complain about our 2 presentors who are very off key.

And again the moving stage during the interval show the potential of the stage if it was fully functional

A rock version of Grande Amore.
Love that song. Was my favourite in 2015.

Not sure I like this version though.

And why yeh 3rd guy is only on the screen?

Seems that the 3rd guy tested positive for Corona, which is very unfortunate

9 out of 10.

Missing Azerbaijan on Ireland.
And that was the one I was pondering about the most about. Couldn’t making my mind between those 2 and choosing Ireland in the end
