EBU threatened with mass artist walkout over Eurovision ‘incidents’

Norwegian media reports that organisers of the 2024 Eurovision Song Contest were forced to cancel planned press conferences yesterday afternoon after four broadcasters threatened to withdraw from the Saturday evening Grand Final.

With the PR team already on full alert after an ‘incident’ with the Dutch singer Joost Klein that has since led to his being disqualified from the event, a planned press conference featuring the ‘Big 5’ broadcasters and host national Sweden was pulled with minutes to go and no explanation given.

Crisis meeting

Norwegian news website VG reports that this was to allow organisers to calm a situation with the delegations from Ireland, Great Britain, Switzerland and Portugal, who had demanded a crisis meeting with the Eurovision organizer EBU.

Ireland’s artist Bambi Thug missed this afternoon’s show and posted on Instagram promising to return for tonight’s show.
