Well, I have been playing around with the figures following Sebia’s victory at the 2007 Eurovision Song Contest, and they are interesting.
The Top 10 with an East-West split are:
- Serbia – 47.0% votes from west
- Hungary – 54.5%
- Turkey 60.9%
- Belarus – 33.5%
- Latvia – 56.5%
- Bulgaria 58.9%
- Slovenia – 36.4%
- Georgia – 39%
- FYR Macedonia – 22%
- Moldova 44%
These figures exclude the traditional eastern countries but include countries traditionally classed as western by Eurovision tradition – Greece, Cyprus and Israel.
Six out of ten show that an overwhelming majority for the west. Put simply, that’s not enough to cry foul.
