At time of writing, there seems to be a lot of hype about this song in the Eurovision fan firmament. PAENDA – with stylised shouty caps – has given us a totally different sound and style of song to that usually associated with Eurovision. That’s by no means a bad thing.
This is a woman with a very gentle voice, singing a song at me that comes across as very haunting and piques my interest.
The preview video and overall feel remind me of “Ol Baldy Sinead” and ‘Nothing compares 2U’ but that’s where the comparison ends.
This performance draws me in to look into her eyes and get mesmerized by the haunting quality of her voice, but I’m not sure how or where to place this song.
It’s taken me a couple of listens to get through all the complexness and judge it, and whist I’m sure the juries will mark it up for that, it’s precisely why the televoters may well skip voting for it.
An intimate staging, however, could well propel this one.
Phil’s score – a confusing 5 points
Delicate and understated and it’s not an easy song to sing.
I am worried though what will happen if she miss a note, because with this song, it can just happen.
I like it a lot but I am not sure it can leave any impact. It all depends which songs will be around this one, how this will sound live and how it will be staged
