If you can cast your mind back to 1956 – never forget your heritage – you’ll know seven countries took part. Look them up. Fast forward to 2019, and each of those seven has won at least once.
Of those seven, bottom of the pile win-wise is Belgium. They have so much pluck and try really hard. Broadcaster RTBF can claim the win, but they’ve not had it all their own way. In 1988, Belgium sent today’s birthday boy Joseph Reynaerdts. After what RTBF did two years earlier, the pressure must have been on to do well. He didn’t do that well, and got all of his points from the French jury. He still didn’t finish last. I think one of those songs that he beat should have been above him, but also at least one more he should have beaten. What do you think?
