It was perhaps justice for those in the Class of 2020 that a large number of them got the gig in 2021. Some of them must have thought their luck had run out when the whole world shut down. There were of course a few exceptions, and it could be argued that some of the 2020 songs were better than the 2021 crop.
Today’s birthday boy Benny Cristo (née Ben da Silva Cristóvão) got the 2021 gig from ČT by default. He managed to incorporate some Czech into his little song, even though it was mainly in English. Sadly, he found points hard to come by in his semi-final, especially from the televoters. And this was what might have been a more televoter-friendly song. He was in good company, and as with all beaten semi-finalists got some free time, rather than have the stress of a Grand Final.
Benny is 38 today.
