Victoria gets three goes at this – aren’t I lucky?
My dad comes into the room and says: “It sounds like someone is in pain.” He then watches over my shoulder for about 20 seconds and adds: “She sings on one level. There is no change, I don’t like that.”
And he’s never seen her before and that should be a worry for Bulgaria because if someone real thinks that, what on earth are the televoters going to think?
The staging is the same idea, with her on Halley’s Comet hurtling through space at a million miles an hour in contrast to the song which goes no faster than walking pace.
Does it have charm? Certainly. Victoria looks great on stage, and the concept really works. BUT, the concert really worked with Equinox as well, and look how badly burned people were in 2018. Concept over song rarely engages with the viewer if it’s highbrow – and this is definitely that.
Victoria is a class performer. She sells this to me, and gives off all the pain of her life and missing someone. To me, though and more importantly to my dad, it just drifts us back off to sleep.
