Mia Nicolai and Dion Cooper will represent the Netherlands at the 67th Eurovision Song Contest.

The duo was brought together by Eurovision winner Duncan Laurence and songwriter Jordan Garfield. The four of them wrote a song that ‘made a big impression on the entire selection committee’, after which they were unanimouslynamed as the Dutch entry for the Contest in Liverpool in 2023.

Quirky young talent

“We received a lot of songs this year, especially from young talent – which is a great development. Mia Nicolai and Dion Cooper are quirky young talents who write their own songs and have a story to tell,” said Eric van Stade, director of AvroTros. “Although we are not going to say much about the song yet, we can say that it is a distinctive, outspoken and meaningful song that will certainly stand out in a positive sense in the Eurovision field of participants.”

Mia and Dion met two years ago, when they were paired up by Duncan and Jordan. There was an instant musical click, they say in a statement.

“The Eurovision Song Contest offers a stage where people can see what you have to offer as an artist. After all these years of hard work translating our feelings into music, this is a great opportunity to tell our story on such a large scale. It feels fantastic and still a bit unreal, but we are ready to bring something positive to Europe,” the duo told Dutch news website AD.NL
