Croatia – Let 3 – Mama ŠČ!
Croatia is the Blandy McBlandface of the contest… usually. However that title has been passed to… well keep reading this dog and pony show and you’ll find out. One thing this song can not be accused of is being “beige” because it is literally ALL THE COLOURS OF EVERYTHING, and then some.
A quick scan of the lyric should tell you everything you need to know – and yet it really only scratches the surface. “Mamma bought a tractor” No, its not a Wurzels tribute song, because by the second verse “ Mama’d been kissing a Moron” tell you its not quite what it seems. By the time you get to the chorus “ That Little Psychopath ( W-w-war-war)” you know where this song has been aimed. Yup. Anti Putin and anti war. And the contest is, apparently, not for political messages!
The accompanying visuals aren’t any less subtle either. If an anti war Unicorn had puked out every cliché in the book, this is what would have been left. Freddie Mercury-a-like lead singer commanding you to be anti war, lots of other “eclectic” dancers doing all sorts of things during the three minutes but, and here is the key, its just a mess. I get why Croats, in the main, wanted this one – they wanted fun with a message – but for me, and other opinions are available, it’s just a turd with a message. It gets old quick with the same tune and beat throughout and even the message is lost after about six nanoseconds. The whole thing, in preview, comes to an end with your lead singer – if one can call him that, displaying nuclear weapons.
There are better ways to get your message across.
