7 April – It rains on our house

Your eyes won’t be deceiving you today. Yes, it’s fun and games in black & white. But don’t let that put you off. Some of the songs from those monochrome days are easily as good as some we get nowadays.

We go back today to 1967, when the contest was in a palace and sponsored by a mirror or glass company, it seemed. The UK of stuff had its first win, and this song from today’s birthday girl Noëlle Cordier came third. This was a fair-to-middling finish for our friends in France, at the time, but maybe – just maybe – those good times could be back, judging by their showing in Big ESC a few years ago, and also JESCs of late. But to be sure, maybe France may need to enter more stuff like this sumptuous little song. Or get Ms Cordier back.

Noëlle is 80 today.

Bonne anniversaire, Noëlle!
