Mo’s Eurovision 2023 Countdown: Italy

Marco Mengoni

Marco Mengoni is taking a second shot at Eurovision, after finishing in seventh place back in 2014. I’ve listened to the ‘Eurovision Edit’ for this review, having not heard any earlier versions.

“Due vite” is exactly what I’ve come to expect of Italy. Professional, competent and timeless. Though Marco treads a fine line between timeless and dated, with a song that could have been sent to Eurovision at any point in the last twenty years. The jury members will love it, if they vote on technical attributes alone.

The verses maintain an upbeat poppy feel, the chorus becomes more yearning. Marco is in great voice and remains easy-on-the-eye. Given the relative lack of ballads, I’d be very surprised not to see this in the top ten, but can’t quite see him improving on 2014, position wise.
