Israeli broadcaster to go it alone in 2023

KAN has announced plans to find the next Israeli Eurovision Song Contest representative.

In a Tweet posted today, the broadcaster confirmed their next act will be selected by a nine-strong professional committee. Those tasked with finding someone to represent Israel next year will reflect “a wide range of music styles”. Once someone is in the job, a separate process will decide on the song – at this time, KAN are keeping all options for this on the table after a run of disappointing results.

No more X Factor

One thing is for sure, the performer won’t come through TV talent show ‘X Factor’. When the tender process for next year’s contest closed, neither of the ‘usual suspect’ media companies made a bid. Keshet and Reshet blamed their non-participation on unreasonable demands placed on participation by KAN.

For the 2022 contest, the fourth season of The X Factor Israel was used to send Michael Ben David to Turin with “I.M”. The song failed to qualify for the final, marking the first time that Israel missed out on a final since 2014.
