The Spanish press here in Yerevan are very enthusiastic and vocal in their support for Carlos. So nothing new there then, I hear you cry! The difference this time is it isn’t entirely misplaced or the result of blind fervent nationalism – Carlos did a great job!
Although there are a few nervous glances from him, Carlos seems very at home on that stage and bounds around with his backing dancers in a very slick and well produced dance routine that makes me think RTVE watched Chanel finish 3rd in Turin and said “So more of that, then!”. It’s very polished, the kind of thing that could happily go into the adult contest and do well. There is that argument of being too much, being choreographed to within an inch of its life, but such songs have their place in the contest and I strong suspect Spain will finish in the Top 3 of two Eurovision events this year.
