There are a few areas of the Eurovision world that are very cunningly tucked away. So tucked away that people often forget they’re there. Like a certain event in Ljubljana in 1993. Was it a semi-final? Was it a pre-selection? Was it just a nuisance? You be the judge.
The event in 1993 saw the first appearance of Hungary on a stage associated with Eurovision. They sent today’s birthday girl Andrea Szulák with a slower song than most. But at least it was in Magyar. As we know, seven good jurors and true chose three songs of the Ljubljana seven to go to Millstreet, and Andrea’s wasn’t one of them. But she did get a maximum. If you head off to Youtube to watch the entire Kvalifikacija, you’ll see that each act sang two songs, not one. So she sort of had a reprise and interval act all in one. Good for her.
Andrea is 61 today.
Boldog születésnapot, Andrea!
