A Matter of Time by Sennek
Sennek is the stage name of aspiring musician Laura Groeseneken. Although she’s landed one of the biggest gigs of her life she’s not giving up the day job working for Ikea. Far from being an identikit piece of flat-pack pop, her choice of entry for Eurovision shows far more class. Describing it as ‘mysterious pop’ it has jazzy undertones and is full of lush sweeping strings and vocals evocative of a James Bond theme, but with a deliciously 60s feel.
The Flemish broadcaster has not been quite so successful as the Walloon, who has brought two fourth places home to Belgium in the past three years. As they rotate once more this year Sennek will have her work cut out to equal or best that but with a big, dramatic performance she certainly has the opportunity, even singing early on the Tuesday. This has the potential to win, and is one of my favourites this year.
My marks: douze points!
Will it qualify? Yes.
