If ever there was a country that assigned its entries on the basis of performers taking their turn, rather than proving ability, it’s Malta. 2018 is Christabelle’s turn.
However, it’s the song and performance in Lisbon that is the key here so let’s have a look.
On first listen, it sounds like an identikit Maltese entry and just another average song, however it does have a good hook that gets under your skin – which will help – but crucially and sadly, it doesn’t have enough depth to go marching up the leaderboard.
It’s a very one-paced plodder and even though TVM will try and dazzle with a light show and choreography, they can’t hide the main problem – it’s just a weak song.
