13 February – People believe she has lost her mind

If you’re really into your contest, you’ll be watching all of the national finals, semi-finals and miscellaneous heats from around Europe as broadcasters pick their songs for Rotterdam. Some don’t bother asking the public, but some like a whole series of shows.

That happened in Norway this year, with the MGP final a recent event. They had several shows which gives us lots of entertainment. Back in 1988, today’s beautiful birthday girl Karoline Krüger was subject to a semi-final (which she sailed through) before she won NRK’s MGP. In the final, she beat a certain Jahn Teigen and a certain Tor Endresen. Big names. Fast forward to Dublin, and she achieved a creditable fifth spot – her country’s second-best finish in the 1980s. It was a great performance, and a classic from our Norwegian friends, partly courtesy of a certain songwriter Anita Skorgan. And who doesn’t love a candelabra.

Karoline is 54 today.

Gratulerer med dagen, Karoline!
