23 March – Why do all these flowers lie and fester in the middle of the field?

What’s your favourite type of song? Is it one that celebrates love? Or one that tells us about what we’re doing to the planet? Or something darker?

They all have a place in our favourite TV show. And back in the 1960s, today’s birthday boy Vladimir ‘Lado’ Leskovar went down the darker path with his Eurovision song. It’s proper Balkan angst and, to coin a Portuguese word, saudade. He even speaks during his song. It’s maybe apt for current happenings. And there’s a trumpet solo too. Lado came eighth with seven points. That doesn’t sound like much, but that was a better than average finish for old Yugoslavia. By the way, it’s in Slovene.

Lado is 80 today.
