What’s your favourite decade of Eurovision? There are so many to choose from. It’s true that some decades have more songs than others. But quantity doesn’t always mean quality.
We really like the 1980s. It was a smaller pool of countries, lots of fun and games without video backdrops, competent orchestras and interesting jury voting. Our friends in Finland were very hard done too with a number of their decent songs. One of these songs comes from today’s birthday girl Anneli Saaristo (née Terttu Anneli Orvokki Saaristo). She celebrated Finland’s love of tango by standing still, but still finished seventh which at the time was Finland’s second-equal best result. Good for her – this song is nothing but fun.
Anneli is 75 today.
Hyvää syntymäpäivää, Anneli!
