27 January – Don’t hit it with stones

Eurovision can be a terrifying beast. You’re there on stage, possibly alone, with several thousand rabid fans before you, only some of whom want you to do well. It can’t be fun for the faint-hearted.

So what do you do? You surround yourself with something familiar. Perhaps like your family. In Liverpool, today’s birthday girl Albina Kelmendi saw sense and brought her close family with her. We assume parents Albana and Bujar, and her siblings Albin, Vesa and Sidorela were happy to play second (and third, fourth, fifth and sixth) fiddle to Albina. There were definitely no dagger looks on stage. Albina and her kin did a reasonable job, as she took a song in Shqip to the Grand Final. She maybe had the nightmare draw of performing after the eventual winner, but it does prove that singing in Albanian can work.

Albina is 26 today.

Gëzuar ditëlindjen Albina!
