The 62nd Eurovision Song Contest took place in Kiev in Ukraine.

In case you wonder why we use Kiev and not Kyiv, back in 2010, Reuters editor Robert Bessler responded to a reader’s query about the spelling.

“Kiev is not the Russian spelling. It is the commonly accepted English language spelling of the name,” he explained. “We are not writing in Ukrainian, we are writing in English, so we use commonly understood English names for cities – hence Munich rather than Muenchen, Cologne not Koeln, Rome not Roma, etc.”
